On June 10 and 11, 2026, the closing event of the StadtUp research project took place at the Aldenhoven Testing Center. After three and a half years of research and development, the 20 project partners from the automotive industry, the supplier sector, and academia presented their findings on end-to-end automated driving in urban areas.
Visitors gained insights into current developments through live demonstrations of automated vehicles, an interactive exhibition of the technologies developed, and concise technical presentations. In addition, the event offered numerous opportunities for professional exchange with experts from industry and research.
Funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the project has been dedicated since January 2023 to the development of fully automated driving and sustainable, intermodal mobility concepts for the city. The focus was on the latest AI methods, data-driven models along the entire signal processing chain, and innovative interaction concepts for urban traffic.
The research work was divided into five subprojects:
- 01 Perspectives on Urban Mobility
- 02 Human Factors
- 03 Environment and Context
- 04 Situation Analysis and Planning
- 05 Automated Driving
The closing event provided a compelling demonstration of how research findings can be successfully translated into practical applications.
